Critical Advantages of Stone Splashbacks Over Traditional Tile

Posted on: 22 January 2018

If you are similar to a majority of other homeowners, it is likely that you have never given your splashbacks a second thought and probably have the same ones that were pre-installed before you moved into your home. The reasons why splashbacks are often overlooked is because you do not directly make use of them, and they naturally fade into the background. However, splashbacks are not an afterthought in your kitchen or bathroom. Their primary function is to keep your walls protected, but they also contribute an element of design to the room. Therefore, it is recommended to replace them as needed, or they could become a significant eyesore in your space. If you currently have tile splashbacks, the following are critical advantages to switching to stone alternatives.

Stone splashbacks clean easily

For some people, the thought of stone is followed closely by high porosity. Although a good number of stone materials are porous, this does not mean you have to install permeable splashbacks in your kitchen or bathroom. There is a vast selection of non-porous options that you could consider, such as marble, which would lend a striking appearance to your kitchen. The lack of pores ensures that splashes are not absorbed by splashbacks, which in effect makes it easier for you to wipe off any spills.

Secondly, stone splashbacks are superior to tile, as they do not require any grouting. Since grout is white, it has an immense proclivity for staining. Thus, your splashbacks may still look pristine, but the discoloured grout would make your kitchen or bathroom seem dirty. Stone splashbacks are installed as solid panels without any grout lines, which means cleaning will not be laborious.

Stone splashbacks are resistant to cosmetic flaws

The second advantage of stone material over tile as your choice for splashbacks is their innate resistance to superficial flaws. Most stone varieties tend to be intrinsically hard, which in turn provides your splashbacks with longevity. Unlike tile that could crack or break when exposed to high impact, stone splashbacks such as granite or even engineered counterparts are incredibly hardwearing.

It should also be noted that stone splashbacks are better at retaining their original vibrancy. Since artificial colouring is not integrated into the splashbacks, you do not have to worry about excessive fading with time, which is unlike tile that can become prone to yellowing or discolouration. Lastly, stone splashbacks have high heat resistance, making them perfect for installation behind stovetops, whereas tile would unavoidably acquire singe marks with time.

How Remodelling Can Improve Your Kitchen

If you are feeling bored with the interior of your home, maybe it is time to call in a team of remodelling contractors. This is what I did. It all started when I looked at a photograph taken in my kitchen around 20 years ago. I noticed that the kitchen had not changed at all. It was so depressing. The kitchen had always annoyed me because the shelves were not in a good position and there wasn't enough counter space. I knew I needed to do something. I called a local remodelling contractor and asked him to come around. He carried out the work in a few weeks and I am really pleased with the results.
