2 Budget-Busting Tips You Could Consider for Your Bathroom Renovations

Posted on: 1 February 2018

Having to finance renovations in your home can be quite costly. Thus, it is essential to try to find the best ways to stick to a reasonable budget while still ensuring that your bathroom is as functional and as attractive as you would like it to be.

However, a common mistake people make is simply rushing out to buy materials that catch their fancy, rather than considering how it will inflate their budget once other costs such as labour are put into consideration. This article highlights two budget-busting tips that you could consider when embarking on bathroom renovations.

1. Make a statement with large tiles

Typically, homeowners will consider large tiles for their outdoor flooring needs rather than in a bathroom setting. The reality is that the more tiles that you use in your bathroom renovation, the higher the cost of your materials. If you are contemplating replacing the tiling, consider making a statement with large tiles.

A plain yet sturdy tile will be more cost effective than opting for small, decorative tiles. Once they are installed, you can then opt to spruce them up by installing trim pieces to add some visual interest to your tiling. Moreover, these large tiles can be used for versatile applications instead of exclusively being installed as flooring. You could have them function as splashbacks for example.

2. Replace your fixtures

A mistake some homeowners make is assuming that a successful bathroom renovation entails the gutting out of their entire bathroom. The truth of the matter is that the more things you are replacing, the higher your renovation costs will be. Moreover, changing the position of major parts of your bathroom, such as the tub or the toilet, will lead to having to reposition your plumbing, and this will make the entire project more expensive. To counter this, you should consider the replacement of your fixtures.

Firstly, fixtures are more affordable to purchase than having to buy new cabinetry, for instance.

Secondly, fixtures are not as labour intensive to install. You would be surprised at how fixtures such as knobs, towel rods, faucets, showerheads and more can have a significant impact on the overall appearance of your bathroom.

To save you more money, you may even try to consider purchasing these items secondhand. As long as the parts are still functional, all you may need to do is polish them to restore their lustre.

How Remodelling Can Improve Your Kitchen

If you are feeling bored with the interior of your home, maybe it is time to call in a team of remodelling contractors. This is what I did. It all started when I looked at a photograph taken in my kitchen around 20 years ago. I noticed that the kitchen had not changed at all. It was so depressing. The kitchen had always annoyed me because the shelves were not in a good position and there wasn't enough counter space. I knew I needed to do something. I called a local remodelling contractor and asked him to come around. He carried out the work in a few weeks and I am really pleased with the results.
