A Couple of Sink Styles for Infrequently Used Bathrooms

Posted on: 31 May 2018

A sink may be one of the bathroom accessories that you put little thought into purchasing because most times you find your home is already fitted with one. Nonetheless, when you are building your custom home or renovating your current bathroom, you may have to consider buying one. And this is when you will realise that making a selection can be daunting, as there is a multitude of styles to suit different lifestyles. The trick to narrowing down your options is first establishing what type of bathroom the sink will be installed, for example in the master bedroom, in a powder room, in a guest bathroom and so on. Below are a couple of sink style options that you could consider for infrequently used bathrooms in your home.

A washplane sink

If you are looking for a sink with a distinctly contemporary yet straightforward design, you should consider a washplane basin. This type of sink designed is typically installed in high-end restaurants or fancy hotels to add a streamlined finish to the bathroom. Additionally, the washplane sink does not take up a lot of space. Since its primary function is to facilitate handwashing, it is characterised by having a thin and compact design. Hence, washplane basins are a great addition to powder rooms or half bathrooms that are not utilised on a regular basis. While steel is a standard material used to manufacture the washplane sink, you can opt for premium materials such as porcelain, glass or even marble depending on the aesthetic you want for your space. Keep in mind that washplane basins are not designed to hold any water, so they do not come with a drain plug.

A wall-mounted sink

Another style you could consider for your bathroom is the wall mounted sink. The basin is attached directly to the wall, eliminating the need for a benchtop or a counter. Thus, this design is ideal if you have a minimalist theme or limited floor space in your bathroom. Since the wall mounted sink does not have any cabinetry installed underneath it, it makes your bathroom appear less cramped and cluttered. Additionally, the installation of the plumbing hardware inside the wall also helps create a clean and sleek appearance. Nonetheless, a wall mounted sink does present one major drawback. The lack of a benchtop means not having any landing space for you to store a few regularly used hygiene products. Therefore, wall mounted sinks tend to be better suited to powder rooms than ensuite bathrooms.

How Remodelling Can Improve Your Kitchen

If you are feeling bored with the interior of your home, maybe it is time to call in a team of remodelling contractors. This is what I did. It all started when I looked at a photograph taken in my kitchen around 20 years ago. I noticed that the kitchen had not changed at all. It was so depressing. The kitchen had always annoyed me because the shelves were not in a good position and there wasn't enough counter space. I knew I needed to do something. I called a local remodelling contractor and asked him to come around. He carried out the work in a few weeks and I am really pleased with the results.
